The details in blue and white are manufacture supplied. While the details in yellow and under the TESTED head are the ones that Auto Bild tests using a number of different test equipment.

Performance: Performance is calculated using the VBOX. 10 runs are carried out in both directions and after having discarded the slowest and fastest run, we average the eight runs to come to a figure. Testing is done at a designated time and place which remains constant across cars.

Performance testing is divided into three categories:

Acceleration runs: This is an indication of how peppy a car is to drive. Lesser the time the car takes to complete runs like 0-60kmph, 0-80kmph and 0-100kmph, the peppier and more fun to drive it is in a straight line.

Driveability: This indicates how easy the car is to drive both in the city and for overtaking on the highways. Here again, less the time taken to for the runs, the better. Here, the 30-80kmph is an indication of the car's driveability in the city, while the 40-100kmph indicates both overtaking abilities and city driveability characteristic. The 60-120kmph time meanwhile showcases high speed overtaking capability of the car, and is a must look for people choosing a car for highway mile munching.

Braking: Possibly a must look for every buyer and enthusiast, especially given the conditions of our road and traffic conditions. Here the distance is more important than the time taken for the car to stop. The less the distance, the better. Also, it's important to know, that cars with ABS don't necessarily take less distance to stop, but these offer better control as one can still steer the car.

Noise test: Auto Bild is also introducing another crucial dimension to vehicle evaluation—that of testing noise levels both inside and outside the car. Noise levels have a direct relationship with comfort and are therefore an important consideration.

In cabin noise: Using a sound meter the decibel levels inside the cabin are calculated at two speeds—at 40kmph with the car being driven in third gear and at 100kmph with the car in top gear. In both cases, the blower speed is set to minimum. The idea here is to tell the readers how high or low are the noise levels are because both the engine noise and wind noise.

Noise at idle: Also an important consideration, noise at idle is measured on the outside at a specified distance from the car which of course remains constant for every car tested.
