PM’s forex-saving push

Live: Keep expenses minimal, reduce use of imported items, PM tells Cabinet

PM's forex-saving push Live: Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a rare public appeal for nation as the Iran war and disruption in the Strait of Hormuz triggered fears of an energy and import shock for India. Calling on states and citizens to voluntarily reduce consumption, the Prime Minister urged wider adoption of work-from-home, fewer non-essential trips, lower fuel use, and restraint in purchases of imported commodities like gold. The appeal has already begun to translate into action. The Centre raised import duty on gold and silver to 15 per cent, pushing prices higher as part of efforts to curb imports and protect foreign exchange reserves. The rupee has also come under pressure amid rising oil costs. The signal is being reinforced symbolically from the top. The PM has ordered a 50 per cent reduction in the size of his official convoy and directed greater use of electric vehicles. Several states, too, are beginning to respond, aligning with the Centre's call to conserve fuel and essential imports as the external crisis deepens. Follow the latest updates on IndiaToday.in

Indian-origin-CEOs trick behind US investor's share-market jackpot?

American billionaire investor Michael Milken once joked that whenever a US company appointed an Indian-born CEO, investors should "buy the stock". A 15-year backtest of the theory now claims such a hypothetical portfolio would have delivered annual compounded returns of around 30%, far more than that of the S&P 500.

Under Sundar Pichai Google's parent company Alphabet and under Satya Nadella Microsoft have increased their profits and share market value, in 2015 Billionaire Micheal Milken had highlighted this tendency. (Image: File/Vipul Kumar)
