THE OUTSIDER IS SHOWN THE DOOR
Maneka Gandhi
                          1982
She was one half of the Emergency's power couple. But everything changed when Sanjay Gandhi crashed to his death in 1980. Maneka then sought control of all of Sanjay's moveable wealth of an estimated Rs 4.73 lakh. Maneka's political activities were enough to earn her the wrath of her mother-in-law and prime minister Indira Gandhi, who threw her out of her house with three-year-old Varun Feroze in a blaze of publicity. The marriage, said Indira, was a conspiracy of certain forces who "wanted to infiltrate into my home".
