The India Today Art Awards will seek to encourage and showcase the best of India Contemporary Artists and embrace all aspects of the burgeoning India art market.

Award Categories:

1. ARTIST OF THE YEAR

The nomination process:

For individual artists to nominate themselves or for galleries, private and public institutions of art to nominate an individual artist’s work, or body of work. Work must have been exhibited in the preceding year i.e. January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2015. Submissions require high resolution images, complete documentation, conceptual details. This may be supported by a video where relevant.

2. EMERGING ARTIST OF THE YEAR

The nomination process:

For individual artists to nominate themselves or for galleries, private and public institutions of art to nominate an individual artist’s work, or body of work. The artist should be below the age of 40 years as on December 31, 2015. Work must have been exhibited in the preceding year i.e. January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2015. Submissions require high resolution images, complete documentation, apart from conceptual details. This may be supported by a video where relevant.

3. CORPORATE COMMITMENT TO ART

The nomination process:

For corporate entities accentuating public awareness and exposure to Indian works of art, self-nominated. Support must have been lent in the preceding year i.e. January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2015. Submissions must contain documentation of financial and/or material support lent with details of artists and art works supported. NB* Financial details are for judging purposes only and will be kept confidential by the jury.

4. COLLECTOR OF THE YEAR

The nomination process:

  • For individual collectors of any age, self-nominated.
  • For purchase or commission of works of Indian art i.e. January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2015.
  • Submissions must contain documentation of art works purchased and a note on the vision for the collection.

5. CURATOR OF THE YEAR

The nomination process:

For independent and institutionally-attached curators of art, nominated by the institution or self-nominated. Curatorial explorations emerging in the preceding year i.e. January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2015. Submissions must contain images, documentation, concept notes, and a vision note.

6. ART WRITER OF THE YEAR

The nomination process:

For independent writers on art and institutionally-attached writers, nominated by the institution or self-nominated. Submission of written work. Published in the preceding year i.e. January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2015.

7. GALLERY OF THE YEAR

The nomination process:

Private or public commercial galleries of art in India for work curated and exhibited in the preceding year i.e. January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2015. Submissions require high resolution images, documentation of work presented over the year, a vision note on their role in nurturing artists beyond curated exhibits.

8. SOLO EXHIBITION OF THE YEAR

The nomination process:

For individual artists to nominate themselves or for galleries, private and public institutions of art to nominate an individual artist’s body of work. Work must have made a debut exhibition in the preceding year i.e. January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2015. Submissions require high resolution images, complete documentation, conceptual details. This may be supported by a video where relevant.

9. DOYENS OF INDIAN ART

The nomination process:

This is a jury-nominated award.

All individual participants must be Indian citizens, and are required to submit one copy of documentation of nationality along with submissions.

Decisions of the Jury will be final and binding. Shortlisted candidates will be notified via email where further information or submissions are required. It will not be possible to respond to those not shortlisted.
