The
measurements you see as info graphics are all measured by
the Auto Bild test team. We have standard end points for measurements
which mostly differ from the ones used by manufacturers. Not
surprising, as every manufacturer uses different end points
for various advantageous reasons and therefore their claims
don't match ours.
But for a reader or a buyer, Auto Bild measurements give the
right indication and perspective because the end points remain
constant across makes and models.
Headroom: Head room is measured as the vertical
distance from the seat bottom to the roof. The maximum and
minimum values arise if the car has height adjustable seats.
Legroom: This is measured
only for the front seats and is measured from the foot well
to the point where the back rest meets the seat bottom.
Knee room: Measured for the rear occupants, courtesy
the seating position that is offered at the rear, and is
done from the point where the seat back meets the seat bottom
to the back rest of the seat ahead.
1 metre knee room: Probably the most important
measurement which gives a clear comparison point across
cars for available space. It is measured as the rear knee
room while keeping the front legroom as standard 1 metre.
Ingress/egress: The ingress/egress
height is an important consideration when it comes to comfort.
This is an indication on how easy or difficult it is to
get inside and step out of the car. This is measured at
both front and rear from the road to the seat bottom. For
cars with height adjustable seats there is a maximum and
minimum value for the same.
Seat bottom length & back rest height: These
measurements again are comfort related. Depending on long
the seat bottom is or how tall the back rest is tells you
whether the seat is accommodating or not.
