The
score sheet decides which car takes the top honours. It is
easily the most detailed scoring sheet used by any magazine
with a 600 point rating system. This system also ensures no
car wins because the tester might like it or thing it to be
better than the competition. Almost 80% of the scores are
objective in nature, again eliminating any personal preferences.
As you can see in the score sheet a car is broadly rated over
22 parameters. However, in reality, it is rated on many more
sub parameters which finally link to the major parameters
as you see on the sheet, giving you as correct and as insightful
information as possible. Also, the weightages for the parameters
have been decided upon based on Indian sensibilities. Therefore,
purchase price, and fuel efficiency have the highest weightages.
While between the ride and handling, it's the former that
gets a higher weightage given both the Indian buyer's preference
and the road infrastructure in our country where comfort is
more important than out and out handling prowess.
Moreover, the final points are arrived at by using complicated formulas and benchmark figures through interlinked excel honed over years of testing countless cars.
The winner is quite simply the car that scores the highest
points. We also have a 'value for money' index, another
crucial feature for the Indian market, which gives an indication
on how much is the buyer getting for the money he/she is
spending. The higher the score for VFM, the better.
