Don’t just sit back and let Valentine’s Day go by. Plan a quick getaway to the hills or the seashore and let the tide of memories take over – remember, no one’s too old for romance... by Mandira Tewari
HARIDWAR BY TWILIGHT
Sounds like an unlikely proposition for a Valentine’s Day retreat, but the surreal sparkle of the hundreds of diyas set afloat on the Ganga at Har ki Pauri (Haridwar) at twilight may just spur you on to hold hands and refresh your pledge of togetherness…
Plan a stay at the Haveli Hari Ganga in Haridwar. (A restored building along the river.) This has all the basic comforts and a spa that’s fairly well equipped. So get in a massage, or some yoga and meditation to add to your holiday.
Food is vegetarian, moderately spicy. The only drawback here is the approach. you will need to go the last lap in a rickshaw (admittedly a fancy one) since the lane to the hotel is too narrow for a car. The hotel will arrange to pick you up from the station.
Getting there: About 220km from Delhi (roughly takes 4-5 hours by road).
Packages:Deluxe room for a couple Rs 2,800 per night.
