Homosexuality

• One out of every five men approves of homosexuality. Across all towns, men in Hyderabad are the most favourably disposed to homosexuality with 61 percent reporting as much. At 35 percent, Delhi has the second highest levels of approval.
  
  
• At 80 percent, heterosexuality is the dominant sexual orientation. Nearly one in three men surveyed in Hyderabad claims to be homosexual. Of this lot, 22 percent are admitted and proclaimed gays (out of the closet) while 13 percent are closet homosexuals.
  
  
• One out of every five men has fantasised about a homosexual relationship at some point in his life. In Hyderabad, 60 percent of all men confess having had a homosexual fantasy.
  
  
• Overall, some 16 percent of all men admit having actually had homosexual encounters. Practice follows reported orientation in Hyderabad as 51 percent affirm having had a homosexual experience at some time in their life. Other towns with high reportage of homosexual experience are Chennai (33%) and Delhi (26%).
  
  
• Friends are the most commonly reported homosexual partners for those that report having ever had a homosexual experience at the aggregate level (42%). Reported homosexual experiences with friends across towns are the highest in Delhi (59%).
  
  
• Nearly one in four men (24%) approves of sex with female prostitutes and this is the highest in Hyderabad and Chennai at 37 percent each.
  
  
• Nearly one in every five men (19%) reports having had sex with a female prostitute at least once in their life. Chennai (30%) and Ludhiana (33%) register the highest incidence of this practice.

Paid Sex

• Some 57 percent of all men that report having had sex with female prostitutes at least once in their lives have paid for sex some times or more. Hyderabad and Ahmedabad report the highest incidence of paid sex with the vast majority (83% and 70 % respectively) saying they have paid for sex all the time.
  
  
• At the aggregate level, some 14 percent of all men who report having had sex with a prostitute at least once say they have slept with a foreign prostitute. Sex with foreign prostitutes has the highest incidence in Delhi (33%) and Mumbai (29%). One in three men (34%) who report having had sex with a prostitute at least once would like to have sex with a foreign prostitute. This fantasy registers high levels of reportage in towns where practice levels (and hence opportunity for realisation of this fantasy) are low viz. Hyderabad, Patna, Jaipur and Kolkata.
